फैज़ की ज़बानी ....

फैज़ अहमद फैज़ की इस ग़ज़ल को पहली बार हिंदु कालेज के जय सिंह लॉन में बैठकर सूना था..... कॉलेज के शुरूआती दिन थे और इस बात से हम अनजान थे कि दुनिया अच्छाई और बुराई के अलावा गुटों , पार्टियों और विचारधाराओं में भी बंटी है...... आज अचानक ये ग़ज़ल मिल गयी और लगा कि इसे यहाँ जगह देना ज़रूरी है ..... कोशिश रहेगी कि कालेज के उस दौर की ज़िंदा निशानियाँ एक एक कर यहाँ जमा हो जाएँ......

जिन्होंने इस ग़ज़ल को या फैज़ की शाएय्री को नहीं सूना है उनके लिए इस से जुडा एक छोटा सा किस्सा..... इस ग़ज़ल को पकिस्तान की मशहूर गायीका इकबाल बानो ने जब ५०००० लोगों के सामने पेश किया तो ये वो समय था जब फैज़ पकिस्तान कि एक जेल में सरकार के खिलाफ आवाज़ बुलंद करने कि सज़ा काट रहे थे ..... लोगों ने जब पहली बार इस ग़ज़ल को सूना तो तालियों की गड़गड़ाहट से हौल गूँज उठा..... ये ग़ज़ल उन लोगों के नाम जिन्होंने अपनी कलम के सामने बंदूकों को झुका दिया ......

गरीबनामा !!

पिछले दिनों मुम्बई जाने का मौका मिला...... सालों बाद रेल में सफ़र हो रहा था इसलिये उम्मीद जागी कि पता नहीं क्या क्या बदल चुका होगा..... बीते सालों में लगातार इस तरह कि खबरें दिखाई सुनाई दीं कि स्टेशनों का नक्शा बदला जा रहा है ..... अब स्टेशन आने जाने वालों se ज़्यादा और हमेशा के लिए बस जाने वालों से kam घिरा होगा…. कूड़ा कुडेदान में आराम करेगा और उद्गोश्नायें बूझो तो जानें का खेल कम से कम खेलेंगी …......कहते हैं भारतीय संस्कृति हर बदलाव को आत्मसात कर लेटी है … इन बदलावों के साथ भी शायद ऐसा ही कुछ हुआ होगा …. किये गए परिवर्तन पुराने ढर्रे के बीच ऐसे धंसे कि विलुप्त हो गए .... !! .....खैर , मेरी सवारी थी दिल्ली मुम्बई के बीच शुरू हुयी नई गरीब रथ एक्सप्रेस ......गाड़ी के प्लेटफार्म पर लगने की सूचना मिलते ही ......नव धनाड्य यात्रियों की फ़ौज इंतज़ार में लीन हो गयी …कुछ देर बाद चमचमाती गाड़ी स्टेशन पर लगी ….. देरी का कारण था … दोपहर बारह बजे से हो रही धुलायी …सुनकर जनता खुश हो गयी , गरीब रथ है तो क्या नक्शा मंहगी ट्रेनों वाला ही है …. आत्मसंतोष कि झलक चहरे पर लिए घंटे भर से इंतज़ार करते यात्री ट्रेन में सवार हुये … बर्थ पर टिकते ही सबने राहत कि सांस ली … गद्देदार है भाई …सस्ते में नहीं टाला लालूजी ने !! सामान और परिवारों को ठिकाने लगा कर बातचीत का दौर शुरू हुआ … सामुहिक समस्या के रुप में ये बात उभर कर आयी कि किसी को भी गरीब रथ नाम नहीं सुहाया …..भारत में ना नेताओं कि कमी है ना … उपलब्धियों के भण्डार रीते हैं … पचास नाम हैं रखने को .... गरीब रथ कह कर लालूजी ने भरे प्लेटफार्म इज़्ज़त की दही कर दीं !!! काहे की गरीब रथ... A C है …बैरे टहल रहे हैं…. गद्देदार बर्थ हैं … और तो और नाश्ता भी अंग्रेज़ी ...ब्रैड और कट्लेट .....

विचार विमर्श ने दिमाग कि खिड़कियाँ खोल दीं तो चाय कि चसक उठी …लेकिन घंटों तक चाय वाले का पता नहीं ... एक और मुद्दा ....गरीबों की रेल में जूस वालों कि फ़ौज और चाय वाले का ठिकाना नहीं ……सरकार आख़िर चाहती क्या है !!
सफ़र के शौक़ीन लोगों ने जैसे तैसे खाना पीना निपटाया…. इतने में रेल मंत्रालय के कारिन्दे बिस्तर लिए हाजिर हुये …. जिन्होंने झटपट ले लिए उन्हें जल्द ही मालूम हुआ ...हर गठरी का एक दाम तीस रुपया ....." तीस रुपए के बिछौने परकौन सोयेगा भला !!" जनता को ठंड में मार दिया मंत्री जीं ने.... कुलमिलाकर खाने के सामन से लेकर शौचालय की व्यवस्था तक ..... लालूजी और उनकी गरीब रथ एक्सप्रेस गरीब अमीरी के नफे नुकसान में तुलते रहे ....लेकिन फिर bhi अंत tak ये साफ नहीं हो पाया की आख़िर मामला है क्या ….. अमीरों कि सवारी में सफ़र करती गरीब जनता या गरीबों ki सवारी में सफ़र करते neo rich … या फिर …जेब से अमीर लेकिन दिमाग से गरीब लोग जिनका एक रुपया पांच में चले लेकिन सरकार का पैसा अठन्नी से ज़्यादा नहीं ….

बारिश के बहाने ये भी...

पानी का मसला सीधे तौर पर जीवन से जुड़ा है … इस से पहले कि पानी हमारा साथ छोड़ इसे एक मुद्दे के रूप में हर जगह स्थापित करना होगा…. भूजल दोहन के कारण २०२० तक ...जल संकट. जिस तरह पैर जमाने वाला हैं उसके लिए हल खोजने का समय कम ही रह गया हैं । जिस जल संकट कि हम बात कर रहे हैं वेह पूर्णतः मानव निर्मित हैं .......भूजल बरसों में इक्कठा होता हैं लेकिन हम उसकी बेख़ौफ़ बर्बादी पर उतारू हैं …. सरकार के पास इसका हल है ... पानी का निजीकरण !! जिस देश में लोगों के पास खाने का साधन नहीं वे बहुराष्ट्रीय कम्पनियों से पानी खरीद कर पी पायेंगे यह सोचना बिल्ली कि भाँती आंख बंद कर निश्चिंत हो जाने जैसा हैं ….इसके चलते ये भी समझना चाहिए कि बडे से बडे बैंक परियोजनाओं के लिए पैसे दे सकता हैं लेकिन प्रबंधन से जुडे तरीके और फैसले जब तक हमारे अपने नहीं होंगे शायद ही कोई हल निकले …… पानी कि समस्या या इसका समाधान कोई आधुनिक अवधारणा नहीं … boondon कि संस्कृति कि नब्ज़ भारतीयों के हाथ हमेशा से रही …. दुःख कि बात ये है किं नए को अपनाने कि होड़ में हमने फायेदे मन्द पुराने तरीकों को भी अलविदा कह दिया ….. भारतीय बनने बाबोबों व्यवस्था कितनी शोषक या भेदभावपूर्ण थी यह कहना मुश्किल है पर वे निश्चित रूप से नन्हे गणराज्यों कि तरह अपना जीवन चला रहे थे शासन और प्रबंधन कि विधियां भारत के हर हिस्से में अनूठी थीं …गाँव के गोथिया (प्रधान ) को अन्य अधिकारों के साथ गाँव के लिए तालाब .. कुएं .. बावड़ी खुदवाने का जिम्मा सौंपा जाता था… इन प्रणालियों को भूल कर हम जैसे जैसे पानी के मुफ्तखोर होते गए…. जल संकट गहराता गया… पानी पर सियात राष्टीय अंतर्राष्ट्रीय रूप ले रही है….इसी के साथ जलवायु परिवर्तन से भारत कि जल समस्या बदत्तर हो सकती है …ग्लेशियरों के पिघलने से सूखे और बाद दोनो में इजाफा होगा… इन समस्याओं से निपटने लिए ….. सरकार को वैश्विक परिप्रेक्ष्य में सोचना और स्थानिये स्तर पर काम करना होगा …. एक मुश्त नीति पर पैसा लगाकर बाबुओं कि फ़ौज को पेट पूजा के लिए आमंत्रित करने से बेहतर है….. संगठनों और पंचायत स्तर पर इस बाँटा जाये…. इसी के साथ मीडिया सूखे की प्रलय को breaking news की तरह दिखाने के साथ ही सफल प्रयोगों को भी दिखाए तो हौंसला बुलंद रहेगा …. कुलमिलाकर आने वर्षों के लिए सूत्र यही है कि … जहाँ भी पानी कि एक बूँद गिरे वहीँ उसे थाम कर संजो लें… वरना वह दिन दूर नहीं जब महाशक्ति banane को तैयार खडे भारत कें नल बूँद बूँद आंसू बहायेंगे .....

All these years while I have read about feminism (minus pseudo feministic rituals!) quite often I have been sadly surprised to know that I am no different to be on receiving end of what we say “Right to be treated as humanly as other male counterparts”. ........
During the recent PSBT film festival I happened to see this documentary 'A day i will never forget' by Kim Longinotto. The movie showcases the horrifying details of an age old practice of Clitoridectomy more famously known as Female genital mutilation. A shame for human civilization this practice is still continuing in 28 African countries. The cutting of clitoris which is mandatory as per the African traditions involves the partial or total excision of the external female genitalia. It is performed by a female elder using a razor, knife, or piece of glass, usually without anesthetic, while several women hold the girl down. Agonizingly painful, it robs her of sexual pleasure and frequently causes medical problems, including hemorrhaging, infection, urinary incontinence, infertility, and complications in childbirth. Uncut women are associated with promiscuity and lack of social respectability. Deadening the woman's sexual pleasure is a way of guaranteeing her virginity and fidelity. But whether they wish to be excised or not, the choice is not theirs. Living in a staunchly patriarchal world, they are dependent on men for social and economic survival........

The auditorium was gradually vacated by women audience members as the film proceeded …… Director has filmed the whole sequence of little girls being forcefully circumcised without anesthesia .....they scream they die with pain but nobody comes to their help. They feel betrayed by their own parents (as one of them says, when asked "whom are you afraid of if you are sent back to your home ..."Nu mama" (my mother) she says !)……

As a student of literature we always used to debate the very concept of Stree lekhan(female writings) and Dalit lekhan( literature written by exploited ) most of us believed that one does not need to be a Female or a Dalit to write intimately about them ………it is now that I firmly disagree with the fact ……for I know what it means when I overheard a lady coming out of the auditorium saying “ let them(men in the audi) see it …they can…. because they don’t know how it hurts !!” it is now that I realize why Eve ensler needed to write vagina monologues, and make this world hear, what a vagina speaks……..

We all re entered gradually and overcame these impulsive reactions but nothing can dilute the truth that sexual liberation is the last thing this civilization would donate to its women!! simpely because it is directly related to women empowerment ...Thankfully I did not find traces of FGMs in India, as I came back and searched about it …… but the fact does not rescue India from being a nation of women who fake orgasms, of young girls who are shameful about menstruating, millions of painful and forced penetrations and uncounted married women who die without discovering their prized possession………. A Clitoris!

Does this remind of all those debates and protests against sex education in schools ?????

SCREAM OF ANTS .....is by Mohsen Makhmalbaf ....a superb Iranian director...... who is known for his subtle n layery treatment of subjects ... lemme first introduce you to the concept n plot of this beautiful movie .......
The film is about three different flavours of life ie sex ...philosophy /sprituality and socio economic truths......The female protagonist, highly spiritual n religious falls in luv wid an atheist ...... embedded in luv is a hidden desire to explore and discover thru each other extreme heights of Spirituality and Communism ..... they plan their honeymoon trip to India which will turn out to be a land of new discoveries for both of them..Girl seeks a spiritual refuge and the man wants to know, how satisfyin (socially n ecnomically) a land with 33 million gods is ???

Their questions ... the answers dey seek and logic they unfold to answer each other is the content of d movie .... each night lady seeks her husband to satisfy her physically but the man does all .....except the very moment of utter pleasure ..... he wud do all..... to not let her wife conceive .....for he believes ....... to be a father is to accept that this world has satisfied him enough to believe ........that earth is a lovely place to be at .....and he wants to reproduce and bring a third life to this place ...... .... Tthe man however is not convinced with all thats happenin around ... with poverty n grief he sees in india ....they make him question as to how can ppl afford to .. laugh n smile in this country ... a large many of them simply do not know ....what it means to live like a human being. They are merely existenin..... This according to him is an unjust world ......and ITS A CRIME TO REPRODUCE for this place .... each night comes n goes with a desire of fertile orgasm for d lady and uneasy questions fr d man ... he innovates new ways to satisfy her but fails to surrender him for finality ......the constant clash btwn search n hope.... lust n materialism .... goes on ....orgasm is symbolic of their search for ultimate truth...

They land up at serein land of gods .......Varanasi ... and try to seek a final answer ...
Director has captured growse and cruel scenes of dead bodies floatin in GANGA .... and ppl bein burned ..... indian spirituality n concept of death n rebirth has been explained as against communist belief of world being a man made misery ......... film ends with both of dem gettin a note dat says .... amgst all chaos n crude realities .. at times .....touch of a flower or a dew drop is all...... dat might give u beautiful moment of happiness n satisfaction ....... Does she conceive .... does he surrender....... is for us to make out .....
For me the movie was full of questions and it ends by leaving us to seek as many answers as we can to each thread of thought ......

if only they could be as big as the little

I have just finished an article on little magazines that rule alternate media ..... the process made me recollect my first encounter with a "little magazine" after which i was completely drawn into reading ...following .. supporting this little magazine revolution .....unexpectedlyi traced A huge glossy magazine in my college library......which was paradoxically titled "the little magazine"the magazine itself was so intriguing....i decided to miss the next class ... and went through the huge physical entity in a go .... the issue had complete script of critically acclaimed Telefilm Haribhari .... the idea fascinated me ... how nice it would be somebody brings out a magazine that publishes scripts of films.... telefilms and documentaries ...... Ideas in college days used to come n rest on a happy note ... unlike today ...when unfortunately i know the inside out of media and these "happy notes" usually seem to me a foolish thought !!so ... that is how i got to know about the Niche' magazines that are intesrestingly called Little Magazines..... but carry with them huge 'Responsibility and Conviction'. Something that media gaints cannot even dare to think ...... As the years pass by I see magazines like Combat law and Civil society getting stronger and paying their writers equally well like mainstream magazines ......So here we register the trend ...... if mainstream still holds the power ...... Little magazines/ alternate media/ civil societies .... are equally firm in the oppostion seat. They can now push n pull with their strength. No wonder Media is getting polarised but it is much more defined .... you are either with one or against the other !!! For ppl like me who plan to be more than parasites to the media industry .... we are left with a single brutal option ......CHOOSE !! choose immediately ... as soon as possible .... because both of them are set to grab you and re count their numbers .... because at times its simpley about how many shouted at a go to prove This vs That ...... I have no clue what will i choose ..... media has taught me to be doubtful about myself with complete conviction :)Whatever i choose ... wherever i land.....I will always strive hard to be in a position where i can make Big as sincere as Little and Little as strong as Big ......

making the ends meets

As enthusiastically as i gear up for making new beginings ... i am not usually good in follow ups ...largely when the process envelops me !!

strange it might seem for a journalist ... but believe me, surrounded with words .. visuals .. n sound 24x7 .. the latently inhibited soul of a TV journalist (Me!) is still learning to stretch the limits :)

with my fingers crossed for this nth number of blog that i ve created ..... i hope i am able to track a little bit of me through this 'virtual mirror'......
